Radio Stations

Fayetteville's radio history is anchored by its longest-running station, WEKR (1240 AM), which first went on the air on October 1, 1948, bringing local news and sports to Lincoln County for over 75 years. The landscape expanded in 1970 with the arrival of WYTM (105.5 FM), providing the area with its first full-power FM country music service. That same year, WIXC (1140 AM) launched on December 11, 1970, as a daytime-only station known for its "WIXC in Dixie" branding; however, WIXC ceased to exist as a local Fayetteville entity in May 1991, when the station was sold, its call letters were changed to WBXR, and its city of license was eventually moved across the state line to Hazel Green, Alabama.
